Having to stand still for a moment… while everything inside me wants to keep going
April 24, 2026

I am in Ibiza.

Together with my son.

And honestly?

The first few days I found it quite difficult—not to be together, but to relax.

Because doing nothing…

that really isn't for me.

I am always busy.

Always in motion.

Always thinking.

New ideas, new plans, new steps.

My mind is never actually off.

So when I was sitting here, on the beach…

and literally fell asleep…

I just thought:

what is happening here?

Because I don't normally do that either.

But there was also just… nothing.

No inspiration.

No creation.

No ideas.

As if my head were empty for a moment.

And perhaps that was exactly what was needed.

The first few days it felt a bit restless.

As if I had to do something.

I actually brought a to-do list with me 😊

As if I had to be "on."

But slowly…

something else took its place.

Rest.

Together with Bram.

From pool to beach.

From beach to sea.

Skimboarding, snorkeling, fishing.

Good food.

Just being together.

No obligations.

No pressure.

Just moments.

And after a few days…

I noticed that things started to flow again.

Not like usual.

Not hurried.

Not full of ideas that need to get out.

But calm.

From a different energy.

I have picked up my work a little bit again.

Completed a few great collaborations.

Picked up existing tasks.

But differently than usual.

Without pressure.

Without haste.

And perhaps that is the biggest lesson.

That not everything has to be "on" all the time.

That rest is not a standstill.

But rather makes room.

Room to feel again.

To see again what is important.

And then afterwards…

to continue again.

Perhaps not faster.

But stronger.

And maybe you recognize this…

That you finally have some rest,

but your mind only turns on right then.

That you normally look for distraction,

so as not to have to feel or think too much.

But this time…

I just let it happen, really.

Lots of time alone.

Many moments where nothing had to be done.

And instead of fighting it,

I just accepted it.

That sometimes it just is what it is.

No solution.

No plan.

No distraction.

Just being for a while.

And perhaps that is more difficult

than always just keeping going.

Is this recognizable for you?

Or are you actually very good at relaxing and letting go?

I am genuinely curious how others experience this.

Maybe this is also your reminder…

that standing still for a moment is sometimes exactly what you need.

Love from Vanessa
